Something for the lawyers:

http://www.youtube.com/v/6lyaMrS0hzk&hl=en&fs=1 = McCain Town Hall, Denver CO 7Jul2008 [http://badattitudes.com/MT/archives/2008/07/mccain_bush_fas.html 13Jul08] ''This 61-year-old librarian was arrested by a few members of the McCain Fascist Goons at a public location. The sign she held would be considered unoffensive by at least 25% of the population according to national polls. We have become worse than the Communist and Fascist states we were once able to condemn. Thanks to Joyful Alternative for the link. Freedom in America is dead.''

FormMail your Senator!

Senators and Congressmen can only be e-reached by FormMail on their websites.

The day has past when scare tactics work. There is NO problem extant that can't be postponed until the next presidency and the next congress. The problem with the economy hasn't been adequately described: a problem the dimensions of which can't be described can't be solved. Where is the spreadsheet model that says that $700b will prevent the dire result that not providing $700b is supposed to prevent? If nobody actually knows the dimensions of the problem, how is $700b the solution? If the government proposes to prop up a house of cards, the house of cards will fall regardless. What is Plan B?

slogthrop, WPost, Comment on: 9/11 Was Big. This Is Bigger. at 10/5/2008 11:39 PM EDT

IN VERY LARGE MEASURE, OUR ECONOMIC LEVERAGE TO ENFORE THIS HEGEMONY WAS LOST, VISIBLY AND FOREVER THIS MONTH. There is no 'morning in America' nonsense any more. It's rather twilight in America, militarily and economically. Jesus said 'let those who have ears to hear,hear.' I add, 'let those who have eyes to se, see.'

-

I was against the bailout, using congressional FormMail to contact my representatives. My Senators, Dodd, Lieberman, voted for the bailout, my Congressman, courtney.house.gov, voted against. Courtney was the only CT rep to vote against.

A Congressman (on NPR) said that his constituents were 99 out of 100 against the first bailout proposal, and 95 out of 100 against the bailout that passed. These are essentially the same numbers against GWB's Iraq War II. Congress doesn't believe in the wisdom of crowsds, they're sure they know everything. A $5t problem can't be solved with a $700b bailout. Bankruptcy for the banks concerned would place the burden on the people who caused the problem. The rest of us are going to get screwed either way.

''It is common to speak as though, when a Goverment pays its way by inflation, the people of the country avoid taxation. We have seen that this is not so. What is raised by printing notes is just as much taken from the public as is a beer-duty or an income-tax. What a Government spends the public pay for. There is no such thing as an uncovered deficit.''

- John Maynard Keynes, 'Tract on Money and Reform,' published in 1923.

My comments on the bailout are posted here.

Of course, Bos already knows his rights, 'Either arrest me or let me go,' but for the average person a government checkpoint manned by people in uniform and wearing badges is a formidable obstacle.

slashdot = a recent ACLU initiative to publicize a recent expansion of authority claimed by the Border Patrol to stop and search individuals up to 100 miles from any US border. They have created a map of what they call the US Constitution-Free Zone

youtube = DHS Checkpoint Blog Entry 10: Man's Best Friend [http://yro.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1007233&cid=25502569 25Oct08]

youtube = Homeland Security Checkpoint: Video Blog - Day 1

checkpointusa.org/blog/ = exposing the police state one checkpoint at a time [25Oct08] scary. Of a piece with 'Show me your papers.'

I'm still waiting to hear from our government why we're in Afghanistan and Iraq. No WMDs in either place. No ObL in either place. WTF are we trying to do, impose our government style on a people who have their own style of government?
