Ezra Klein's op-ed this morning was a long interview with a Buddhist-Freudian psychotherapist who has written a lot of popular books. I read the whole piece and was surprised at how open Klein was about his own experiences in therapies (apparently several), and his struggles with meditation and mindfulness. Some of the conversation I simply didn't understand, especially the way Klein formulated his questions, but what I mostly didn't understand was the discussion of the Buddhist notion of no-self. If there is no 'self', who or what is engaging in mindfulness? who or what is the non-judging observer?
Rough day. I woke up with a lot of aches and pains including neck and both shoulders, but right more than left. Much peeing all day, much like during the night, increasing pain in P.
