Lights out by 9, the nurse took "vitals" at midnight, up at 2, uncomfortable, too far down on the bed, bad foot rest on the bedframe, cutting off circulation? I moved to a chair and put my feet up on the wheelchair in the room, feeling a bit despondent, worrying I have Charlotte's genes, bored, uncomfortable, and grubby. It was a week ago today that Geri drove me to the ER, predicting that they would keep me in the hospital. It is the Feast Day of St. Francis the Whacko, a favorite saint of mine, who took Jesus literally and seriously, and whose teachings and life example I violated in spending money to travel from Milwaukee to Umbria to visit his hometown of Assisi and his sanctuaries at La Verna and San Damino. Do I still have my travel notes from that trip? 6:30, checking vitals. 7:00 finger stick. 7:30 blood draw. . .
