Treadmill is a no-go so far at 4 p.m. Shooting CPP.
LTMW at this morning's winner of the Early Bird award, a red-bellied woodpecker nabbing some suet at 7:26, right before sun-up. S/he was followed by a downy woodpecker on the niger feeder, and snowbirds pecking around the ground under the sunflower/safflower feeder at 7:29, followed by a squirrel. Lilly and I keep watch out our window. Chickadees don't show up until 7:53. Sleeping in? They show up in numbers, mostly on the short tube but also on the long tube. Short tube swinging like a pendulum from their impacts.
Workers showed up at the Pandlhaus a little after 7 this morning.
Domestic violence data and the sequellae of slavery/Jim Crow/ persistent inequality. On JSOnline this morning there is a study of DV fatalities in Wisconsin over the last 7 years. Unsurprising data: most of the cases over the last seven years involved Black victims, who represented about 73% of victims. Overall, 33 victims were white — 18.5% — and nearly 13% were white women. Experts have said women of color are over-represented in domestic violence deaths compared to their share of the population, in part because of structural racial inequalities in housing, income, and access to safety resources. Unstated: the killers were mostly Black men.
Handwrote letter to Peter for confirmation retreat, thinking of the similarity to a bar mitzvah though Peter is 16, not 13. I'm a bit surprised that the confirmation is occurring at this age rather than at age 12 which I the age at which we were confirmed in my long-ago youth.
