In bed at 8:45, up at 3:00 from a dream of chatting with Jean-Paul Comelin about whether there is a recording of Beethoven's Seventh: The Dance Symphony. I let Lilly out at 3:15.
Prednisone, day 143, 7.5 mg., day 22. Prednisone at 6:00. All Bran w/ berries at 6:30. Morning meds and Trulicity injection at 7:00.
LTMW on this very overcast morning at much bird activity at my feeders, especially the chickadees, nuthatches, and woodpeckers. The tube feeder is only one-third full but the birds take their turns coming to it, very orderly. I was about to write 'very civilized' but I thought there's not much civilized in our civilizations. Are Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah civilized? Is the U.S.? On this Feast of St. Francis I think of the legend of his preaching to the birds at LaVerna and of my hunch that it grew from Francis's thinking that the birds preached to him. Birds don't engage in interspecies or intraspecies warfare, unlike civilized humans. Even predatory birds, raptors, prey for food. When birds get into fights over territory, they may engage in shows of force but they don't typically involve killing the intruder who violates another bird's space.
I'm losing my interest in writing.
