Neighbors and Geri's friend Cheri & Howard Bubrick sold their house across the street from us yesterday, closing in December.  Each of the houses around ours will have changed owners since we moved here 11 years ago, except John & Debbie McGregor next door south.  The Blutstiens when Barbie died, David Lowes friends kitty-corner to the northeast, neighbors to the north, and most recently neighbor to the west

Former French Abortion Law (1948)

From Annie Ernaux's HAPPENING:  "The following persons shall be liable to both fine and a term of imprisonment: 1. Those responsible for performing abortive practices,.  2. Those physicians, midwives, pharmacists, and other individuals guilty of suggesting or encouraging such practices,   3. Those women who have aborted at their own hands or at the hands of others.  4. Those guilty of instigating an abortion and spreading propaganda regarding .contraception.   The guilty parties may also receive an injunction requesting that they leave the country.  Moreover, those belonging to the second category will be deprived of the right to exercise their profession either temporarily or definitively."

"As was often the case, you couldn’t tell whether abortion was banned because it was wrong or wrong because it was banned. People judged according to the law, they didn’t judge the law”.

Our Town

Olivia [Schulz] is the 20th homicide victim aged 17 or younger so far this year in Milwaukee, and her death comes within a week of separate shootings that injured another 12-year-old and a 2-year-old at a city park.  Her family was unloading groceries from their car in the 53000 block of North 38th Street on Monday,  2 days ago,  when Olivia was shot and killed.  Olivia’s death was one of two homicides reported in Milwaukee on Monday. At 4:53 p.m., police said the body of 40-year-old Kenita Sanders was discovered on the 2800 block of North 22nd Street, in the Amani neighborhood. Police said unknown suspects are sought.  The two homicides increase the total to 176 for the year, up from 152 as of the same date in 2021, when the city broke its homicide record for the second year in a row, according to police.  Minors have increasingly been caught up in the city’s gun violence. From 2016 through 2019, no more than 10 minors died by homicide annually. But 20 or more have been killed in each of the three years since then.

Errands; tornados?

Up to Costco for Geri's prescriptions, coffee, some pistachios, macadamias, and energy bars; stop at Meijer's for CBH, water, Lilly's toppings, and some wine.  Heavy downpours while coming out of Meijer's.  Tried to hear the last chapter of Envaux's HAPPENING on the drive home, the rain too loud to hear iPhone. . . . found out when Geri got home that there were a number (8) of tornado warnings all over SE Wisconsin, including near Cedarburg, which must have been the one that caused me to struggle a bit to maintain control of the Volvo on I43 coming home.

Matthew 25:31-

Geri is visiting her friend Elise today.  Mt. 25.
