1562 The Council of Trent was reopened by Pope Pius IV for its third (and final) session
2016 World's 62 richest people were as wealthy as half the world's population according to a report published by Oxfam
2023 Tom St. John died in the Virgin Islands
In bed at 8:45, awake at 2:19, up at 2:25, thinking of Geri, the challenge of keeping her knee chilled, keeping her leg elevated 12" above her heart, worry about blood clots, middle of the night bathroom requirements. As I pass Steve's bedroom, I see that he is awake in the middle of the night, reading. I lit my goyishe yahrzeit candle thinking of Tom and Caela, Kitty, Christian friends to converted to Judaism: TSJ, Andrea Waxman, Madeleine Kelly Lubar. I also lit a Duraflame log in the fireplace.
Geri got up on her own at about 5:20 and came into the TV room in pain and nauseous. She called the night nurse at the Orthopedic Hospital and described her symptoms and was told that the hospital will call her later in morning. She is not reacting well to the painkiller Tramadol. I suspect she needs to be using Oxycodone but she declined it at the hospital because of all the problems associated with the drug.
Prednisone, day 249, 5.0+2.5 mg., day 11. 5.0 Prednisone at 4:20 a.m. Other meds at 8:55 a.m. 2.5 mg. prednisone at 5ish.
TRIBUTE is saying, writing, or giving something to a person as a sign of respect and admiration or paying someone not to attack you. "Millions for defense and not one penny for tribute." Why am I reminded of the secondary, historical meaning by this news item?
Alice Miranda Ollstein, Caitlin Oprysko, and Irie Sentner of Politico reported yesterday that experts expect Trump and his allied political action committees to pull in as much as $250 million for Trump’s inauguration. But much of the cost of the inauguration is actually covered by taxpayer dollars, they report, and while laws require the inaugural committee to disclose its donors, there is no requirement to say where the money goes. Trump’s Inaugural Committee fundraiser told the reporters that any money not spent on the inauguration will likely go toward Trump’s presidential library.
I picked up Sue at the airport at 1:15. When we arrived home, Geri was on the phone with Dr. Graf, who OK's her using the oxycodone from his last knee surgery. Sue hooked her up with the cold therapy machine and after 20 minutes or so, removed it whereupon Geri fell asleep with probably the best rest she's had since the surgery. Then Sue and I also fell asleep.
Very tired today, not enough sleep last night plus the stress of Geri's pain.
