In bed @ 9:15, up at 5:15, wondering whether Ellis is up and on her iPad. No toddy, waiting for my 'cup of calm' tea (lavender and mint) to cool down to sipping temperature. 25 degrees outside, high of 32, cloudy all day, wind W at 7mph, 4 to 8 mph expected, gusts up to 14 mph, wind chill now at 17, sunrise at 7:17, setting at 4:49, 9+32.
Ellis the Zealous is still in bed with Nona as I write. She is enormously engaged with life, with her interests, with her iPad, her favorite programs, with her Nona and even with me. When she arrived with Nona from McDonald's, I was in the basement. She made a point of waiting for me at the top of the basement stairs so she could give me a hug. Heartwarming. How is it possible that she has such energy? such exuberance? such loquacity, volubility, command of language at age 8? Geri got up at 6 to let Lilly out, Ellis followed and let Lilly in, then took her iPad and returned to bed with Nona, for how long? She got up again at 7:10 come back to the TV room and ask me what my favorite color is while engaging with some program on her iPad.
CPAP mask seal a problem last night: 10/20. Rats
More memories of TSJ keep emerging. Fishing, camping with the kids, boating and water skiing with the kids, his behemoth white whale of a boat, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, realizing skiing was not for me, Bean's Lake, Silver Lake, dinners in restaurants in Wautoma and Wild Rose, Bagley Rapids with Carl Riccardi, Two Oaks and Wautoma Country Club, games of hearts w/ DPLowe, DEGoldberg, DShane, JLevine, JLiebsohn, MDarneider, JJubelier; Cathy Zeiler, house on Edgewood, helping move out of house on Prospect, eulogy for Jessie's partner, staying overnight with Saul when Jake was being born, sharing keys to each other's homes and to Bean's Lake, Myrtle Beach, being picked up at St. Francis - 'you don't really believe that stuff, do you?', his pipe and mustache years ago, Pinkus fuktus, poop in the purse, the cake joke, the chicken joke, driving to Appleton for what? visiting his mother, the French house, Doc &Mrs. French
Eulogy Thoughts: There are many honors in life that we seek; there is one that we dread. Being honored to deliver a eulogy is among the latter because it means someone dear to us has passed. It means we have suffered a loss, a loss shared by the one who asked us to deliver the eulogy. I knew I there was a possibility of Caela asking me because of the near lifelong friendship that Tom and I shared.
